2023 | Southern AB Aggregate Assessment
Completed an assessment of aggregate resources in a large prospect first mapped by Dr. Mollard in the 1950s for irrigation development in southern Alberta. Although several aggregate pits have been developed in this prospect over the past 73 years, much more aggregate remains – providing a great testimony to Dr. Mollard’s interpretive skills.
2022 | Geomorphological Assessment in El Salvador for Hatch
Commissioned by Hatch to complete a baseline geomorphological assessment for the El Chaparral Hydroelectric Project in El Salvador utilizing satellite imagery, LiDAR data and available field and technical information.
First Online Terrain Analysis Workshop
Delivered our first online 3D terrain analysis workshop utilizing anaglyph images created from Dr. Mollard’s Landforms and Surface Materials of Canada. One hundred and twelve (112) people participated from across Canada and elsewhere.
2021 | Quality Control & Assurance for SK WSA
Appointed by the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency for Quality Control and Quality Assurance for the provincial wetland and drainage mapping project.
2020 | New Location
Moved to our new location at 2215-A Emmett Hall Road, Regina, consolidating our office space, lab facilities and field equipment in one location.
2019 | Landforms and Surface Materials of Canada, 9th Ed.
Ninth edition is published. Originally written and compiled by Dr. Jack Mollard in 1972 it remains in use by several universities and for industry workshops. Order a copy here!
2018 | Company History Book Published
The 60-year company history book is written by Edward Willet and benefited immensely from Dr. Mollard’s written notes and recollections, and from contributions by JDMA staff. The book was designed and produced by Catharine Bradbury. Order a copy here!

Jack Mollard passes away, bringing a remarkable career to a close. January 3, 1924 – September 13, 2017.

2015 | UAV Surveying
JDMA acquires its first unmanned aerial vehicle system; research begins into the use of UAV-generated orthomosaics and DEMs.
2013 | Using GPR to Locate Unmarked Graves
JDMA acquires and begins to use a Ground Penetrating Radar to locate unmarked graves and artifacts at various archaeological sites across Saskatchewan.
2010 | Lynden Penner, President of JDMA
Jack resigns as president, passes the baton to long-term time employee Lynden Penner.
2009 | Jack Mollard Receives the Sir John F Kennedy Medal
Jack is awarded the Sir John Kennedy Medal from the Engineering Institute of Canada.
2005 | Great Sand Hills Regional Environmental Study
JDMA is part of the Scientific Advisory Council for the Great Sand Hills Regional Environmental Study (RES), providing expertise on terrain, land cover changes, and erosion susceptibility modelling.
2003 | Peace-Athabasca Delta
JDMA is contracted by BC Hydro to investigate geomorphic changes in the Peace-Athabasca Delta.
Nunavut Roads
The government of newly formed Nunavut hires JDMA to route a series of all-season roads connecting the northern communities of Rankin Inlet, Chesterfield Inlet, Baker Lake and Whale Cove.
2000 | Pipeline Stress-Corrosion Cracking Studies
Development begins on a predictive model for Stress-Corrosion Cracking in buried pipelines.
1999 | Jack Mollard Awarded Julian C. Smith Medal
Jack is awarded the Engineering Institute of Canada’s Julian C Smith medal awarded for “Achievement in the Development of Canada”.
1993 | Mars Geography
JDMA works with NASA to interpret Mars satellite imagery.
1988 | Lineament Studies
JDMA completes lineament studies for the potash mining industry.
1987 | EM31
Now a regularly offered service, JDMA acquires the equipment needed to conduct ground conductivity studies.
1972 | First Publication of "The Blue Book"
Jack Mollard first published his famous textbook Landforms and Surface Materials of Canada.
1970's | Pipeline Route Studies
JDMA is involved in a number of routing, terrain mapping and construction materials searching studies for a number of arctic pipeline projects, including the MacKenzie Valley and Alaska Pipelines.
1965 | George Mollard begins at JDMA
George begins a 45 year career working at J.D. Mollard & Associates.
1961 | Shoreline Erosion for Lake Diefenbaker
JDMA conducts the first shoreline erosion studies for the future Lake Diefenbaker that would impound the South Saskatchewan River near Coteau Creek.
1952 | Jack Mollard, Ph.D.
Jack completes his Ph.D. from Cornell University under Don Belcher.
1947 | Jack Mollard Graduates from Purdue
Jack completes his Master’s in Engineering at Purdue University becoming the first Canadian to study airphoto interpretation for terrain analysis.
